My experience with Nature

I have always felt very connected with Nature. When I am in a natural place, I experience a sense of freedom, I am feeling alive, joyful, strong and connected.

As a child, I loved to play outdoors, walk and swim. I liked to collect stones, leaves or seashells.

I also had-have a particular connection with animals, beyond words.

Nature is also Elements, and we are made of these Elements too:

Earth is all around us but also inside of us, in our bones, solid parts and in our sense of stability.

Air is the wind in the leaves as much as our breath. It influences our sense of movement.

Water is in the sea, the rain, but also our blood and the fact we are made of 80% water. It influences our emotions.

Fire is the sun and our own body warmth. It influences the amount of energy we have.

Space is the Element that contains all the Elements.

Different cultures recognise different Elements. For example in Chinese medicine and Kung Fu, the Elements considered are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. Each of them have a Yin and Yang part, and Chinese medicine is based on the concept that Elements in balance bring perfect health.

Tibetan Buddhists consider the Elements I listed in my description and practice different meditations in order to bring them into balance.

More simply, we can use Nature to work on the Elements.

If you feel unstable or at the contrary, if you tend to be too stubborn, you may want to balance your Earth Element. You can simply have a walk in Nature or do some gardening.

If you feel stressed or at the contrary not moving enough, you may want to balance your Air Element. Work on breathing, especially outdoors, play with the wind.

If you feel too emotional or at the contrary if you experience a sense of emptiness, you may want to balance your Water Element. Have a walk by a river or on a beach, or under the rain, go swim, play with water.

If you feel you don’t have enough energy or at the contrary, if you become angry too easily, you may want to balance your Fire Element. Have a walk or a chill out in the sun, or by a fire. In both cases, be cautious, protect yourself from the sun with cream or a hat, and remember to handle fire in a wise way.

If you feel trapped in situations or at the contrary if you are too much into your fantasy world, you may want to balance your Space Element. Go in open spaces and meditate.

The Elements in Nature are very powerful, we can see it. They are equally powerful inside of us, and working on them can really bring much to our life.

It may be the reason why I am definitely healthier when I can spend time in Nature. I feel calmer, yet more energized and more balanced, I sleep better.

A funny story is that when I stay in a heated room for several hours, I end up coughing, while when I go swim in the Winter or practice TaiChi outdoors in shorts and t-shirt with any weather, I am fine. It actually heals the cough I may get with the heating.

Something I also like to do every day is standing or walking barefoot on the grass of my garden. It helps me feel grounded.

I believe that Nature is an essential part of our life and of ourselves. Most people forgot their connection with it and try to find comfort elsewhere but I think that nothing can replace this particular connection. It is simply part of us.

We often see Nature as something to dominate or use but it is alive, and I really believe that humankind would gain a lot by reconnecting more with Nature.

The meditation I linked below is working on our Heart Chakra, Love and Compassion.
